Your Role 
 
As the HSE Specialist & Work Safety (f/m/x) you will be responsible for ensuring adherence to occupational health & safety, social, and environmental regulations and standards throughout our project lifecycle in Germany. You will work closely with the COO of the German business unit, Construction Project Managers, and the global HSE & ESG team to promote a safe and sustainable working environment. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable occupational health & safety, social, and environmental regulations across Zelestra’s German projects. 
  • Collaborate with the COO, Construction Project Managers, and the corporate HSE & ESG department on all HSE and ESG topics. 
  • Conduct site HSE inspections as required to maintain high safety standards. 
  • Record, monitor, and report on construction HSE metrics and KPIs. 
  • Develop, maintain, and improve operational HSE tools, templates, and plans in collaboration with the global HSE team. 
  • Support the identification and engagement of local HSE consultants. 
  • Stay updated on relevant German occupational health & safety, social, and environmental regulations; adapt corporate standards accordingly. 
  • Assist in coaching, mentoring, and implementing HSE programs on-site. 
  • Develop Site HSE Management Plans to ensure a safe environment for employees, contractors, visitors, and the community. 
  • Establish a best-in-class HSSE management system aligned with Zelestra’s standards and local requirements. 
  • Maintain a network of local HSSE advisors and allocate necessary resources for project execution. 
  • Ensure all project team members receive required training, certifications, and PPE. 
  • Provide guidance to site managers, supervisors, foremen, and safety advisors. 
  • Ensure prompt reporting of incidents/accidents to internal/external stakeholders. 
  • Support incident investigations to identify root causes and implement corrective actions. 
  • Follow up on incident resolution and corrective measures. 
  • Coordinate regular meetings with project teams to review safety issues, trends, and upcoming risks or events. 
  • Act as an escalation point for HSE concerns. 

Job Requirements

 
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field 
  • Management-level occupational health & safety certification (e.g., NEBOSH International General Certificate) 
  • Management-level environmental certification (e.g., NEBOSH Environmental Management Certificate) is preferred 
  • Social certification such as SA8000 Introduction & Basic Auditor Training is a plus 
  • Fire marshal and first aid certifications required 
  • Several years of supervisory experience in occupational health & safety within construction environments 
  • Several years of managerial experience in occupational health & safety 
  • Knowledge of electrical installations and renewable energy projects; solar sector knowledge is beneficial 
  • Experience with implementing management systems 
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel skills essential) 
  • Business fluency in German and English 
  • Analytical mindset with excellent communication skills 
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% to project sites 
  • Flexible attitude with attention to detail; positive team player capable of supporting colleagues effectively
