On Site Environmental Specialist Aurora Project

Mission
At Zelestra, we are looking for a Field-based Environmental Specialist to join the Security, Environmental & Social (SES) team for LATAM, based at a major photovoltaic project located in Pozo Almonte, Tarapacá Region.
The main mission of this role is to ensure compliance with environmental obligations on behalf of Zelestra as the project owner, by supervising all activities related to the execution of the environmental instrument under the responsibility of the EPC. Additionally, the specialist will manage all procedures required by the environmental authority to ensure proper implementation of the project's environmental provisions, maintaining fluid communication with the various construction teams and reporting directly to the LATAM Environmental Coordination team.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and guide the field environmental team to ensure compliance with environmental obligations.
- Collaborate with the project’s construction manager in hiring specialized consultants to fulfill environmental obligations as committed in the environmental instrument, IFC standards, and the Equator Principles, and address any identified gaps.
- Oversee project managers and technical teams in optimizing the project design by incorporating environmental variables, ensuring these comply with the environmental instrument.
- Manage and support project managers, technical, and financial teams in planning, including timelines for environmental procedures and permits, and ensure all permits are in place before and during construction.
- Transfer all relevant environmental information, commitments, stakeholder relationships, and other key aspects of the project to the environmental team responsible for the construction and operational phases; on-site support may be required.
- Monitor and ensure strict compliance with environmental commitments during construction and operation & maintenance phases, as well as ensure proper documentation is submitted to the authorities.
- Contribute to the project’s risk registry and its mitigation plans, as well as the record of lessons learned.
- Manage contracts with consultants and legal experts providing services to the environmental area.
- Prepare internal and external environmental management reports as required and support internal and external environmental audits.
- Collect and review information to be submitted to financial institutions, ensuring it meets requirements.
- Conduct internal and compliance audits on-site to verify alignment with the environmental instrument.
Job Requirements
- Professional degree in Environmental Engineering, Natural Resources Engineering, Forestry Engineering, Biology, Law, or a related field.
- At least 6 years of experience in environmental specialist roles within the energy, mining, and/or oil & gas sectors.
- Proven experience working in the field, particularly in northern Chile.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and budget formulation. Knowledge of Power BI and Project is a plus.
- Experience in managing and using Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
- Valid Class B driver’s license.
