Mission

At Zelestra, we are looking for an Environmental Specialist for Fieldwork to join the Security, Environmental & Social (SES) team for LATAM, based on a significant project located in Pozo Almonte, Tarapacá Region. Your primary responsibility will be to develop technical and legal support related to the environmental management of the project, which is about to start its Construction phase, during its construction, commissioning, operation, and maintenance. You will maintain smooth communication with the EPC team and report directly to the LATAM Environmental Coordination, in accordance with Zelestra's corporate guidelines, current local environmental regulations, IFC standards, and Chilean legislation.

Requirements

  • Collaborate with the Project Area Manager and/or independently, in the process of hiring specialized consultants, review the technical and legal content of the DIA, EIA, and/or environmental relevance, and prepare environmental plans at each stage for project execution.
  • Advise the Projects area, technical team, and financial team on optimizing ongoing processes, incorporating environmental variables.
  • Advise the Projects area, technical team, and financial team, and raise timely alerts in the project planning management, incorporating deadlines associated with environmental processing and permits, and any additional variables that could impact the Plan.
  • Maintain fluid and constant communication with the Environmental team for the EPC team on-site, ensuring timely information transfer and compliance with commitments, relationships, and other relevant aspects of the project in terms of environmental management.
  • Monitor and ensure strict compliance with environmental commitments during the construction, operation, and maintenance stages, as well as the custody of information presented to authorities.
  • Contribute to the project's risk register and mitigation plans and to the recording of lessons learned.
  • Manage contracts with consultants and specialist lawyers providing services to the environmental area.
  • Prepare management reports as needed.
  • In collaboration with LATAM Environmental Coordination, take appropriate intervention and mitigation measures in the Project for deviations in environmental management, if required.

Responsibilities

  • Professional Degree in Environmental Engineering, Natural Resources Engineering, Forestry Engineering, Biology, Law, or a related field.
  • At least 8 years of experience in similar field roles in Renewable Energy projects.
  • Proven experience in Utility Scale Projects processed before the Environmental Assessment Service.
  • Proficiency in Office software, especially Excel and budget formulation.
  • Knowledge of Power BI and Project is a plus.
  • Experience with geographic information systems.
  • Intermediate oral and written English.
  • Class B driving license.
  • Availability to work on-site in Pozo Almonte, Tarapacá Region.
